If you are thinking of moving to or are new to the Spokane area and haven’t decided where to settle down, be sure to visit the South Hill.  Here are some benefits that should make you want to call this charming area home.

 

  • Downtown is only 5-10 minutes away with no traffic.  The airport is about 15 minutes away (for me!)
  • Home prices are higher, but so is the quality of life.  Even first time home-buyers can find something within their budget.  You will have a greater return on your investment when it comes time to sell:  the South Hill averages a 3% higher appreciation rate than other areas in Spokane. 
  • Neighborhood parks, bistros and businesses are plentiful and within walking distance.
  • Many streets are lined with century old trees, providing for cool afternoons and evenings on the front porch.  The upper South Hill, along High Drive and near Comstock Park, is forested land with huge pine trees still surrounding the area.
  • Award-winning, highly desirable schools: Hutton, Moran Prairie, Wilson, Jefferson, Adams, Roosevelt, Mullan Road and more.
  • The Bluffs off High Drive are great for hiking, running, biking or just enjoying the sunset.

]]> Spokane monthly calendar of events http://www.spokanewahomes.net/blog//Spokane-monthly-calendar-of-events Saturday, September 6th 2008 Spokane monthly calendar of events, please visit the Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau website at www.visitspokane.com   You can also find this site on the left side menu of my website.]]> South Hill neighborhoods http://www.spokanewahomes.net/blog//South-Hill-neighborhoods Sunday, June 15th 2008 Comstock Park area is near the top of the South Hill between 29th and High Drive and Bernard and High Drive.  The Bluffs are easily accessible from this area.  Comstock Park features an in-ground public swimming pool which is open in the summer months.  Also, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, playground equipment, BBQ grills and huge maple trees make it a favorite summer spot.  The park has quite a spectacular fall color display as well.  The homes around this area are large ranchers and multi-level homes.  It's a great family area.

The Manito Park area is very desirable, with tree-lined Manito Blvd. and it's craftsman style homes and of course the numerous, well-maintained gardens within the park.  The Manito area is bordered by Grand and Bernard and 14th and 29th.  The homes to the west of Bernard carry on the craftsman tradition and tree-lined streets and are within walking distance to the park.

Cannon Hill Park is a smaller park with a duck pond and is about as charming as you'll find with it's brick tree-lined streets that cirle the park.  There is an old stone bridge that used to span the pond when the entire park was a swimming pond.  There are some great old photos at the NW MAC when it was called Adams Park and carriage races around the park were held.  The homes are diverse...mansions, small brick tudors, French Provincal, Mediterranean, craftsman...all showing pride of ownership in this beautiful area.

The Rockwood/Hutton area is a maze to me...I think best explored on a bicycle.  The homes along Rockwood Blvd. are incredible mansions.  Off Rockwood Blvd. are many curving, hillside streets each with more jaw-dropping homes.  There are hidden ponds, rocky ledges, parks...what a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

8. Ice Skate at Riverfront Park
9. Take a gondola ride over the Spokane Falls (spring is best)
10. Stroll through the gardens and grounds of Manito Park on the South Hill
11. Visit the historic 5-star Davenport Hotel
12. Visit Greenbluff for farm fresh produce (home of the Harvest Festival in fall)
13. Tee-off on one of our 15+ regional golf courses
14. Boat or fish on our numerous lakes
15. Participate in our annual Bloomsday Run (First Sunday in May)
16. Enjoy the festivities of our Lilac Festival (mid May)
17. Enjoy the Spokane Symphony or a show at our newly renovated art deco Fox Theatre (you will be in awe!)
18. Shop and eat downtown at our many fine shops and restaurants
19. Watch the sunset from High Drive atop the South Hill
